IFMA, ISS and The Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies

Greg Brown

IFMA, ISS and The Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies have initiated a project on the future of service management in facility management (FM) and corporate real estate (CRE). “ISS 2020 Vision: The Future of Service in FM and CRE” is the fifth installment of the ISS 2020 Vision white book series. Members of IFMA will receive an abstract of the report, and the full report will be released at IFMA’s 2016 World Workplace Conference and Expo in San Diego, California, USA.

This survey seeks to derive insights into the future of service and especially Service Management by unfolding the latest trends and drivers that will shape customer standards, service standards, technology and input on what constitutes excellent service towards 2020 and beyond. The survey will take less than 10 minutes to complete, and your opinions will make a significant contribution to our research.

The survey will be active from May 19 to June 9, 2016, close of business (CST).

Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle for a 9.7 iPad Pro. The drawing will be held in late June or early July. Should you need any information on this effort, please do not hesitate to contact Nick Rocha, Manager of Benchmarking and Analytics at Nickalos.rocha@ifma.org or +1-713-993-7633.

Hailstorm get you?  Steps to take for your protection.

Dick Zucker

Hail is a Texas given; just a matter of where and when it will strike.  It is one of the most damaging naturally occurring events impacting your roofing system.  Unfortunately, hail damage is difficult to detect by the untrained eye.  Hail can compromise a roofing system and definitely reduce life expectancy even if punctures, holes or tears are not noted.

The MOST IMPORTANT first step is to contact your insurance company to protect your investment and document a concern of potential damage. An insurance adjuster will respond and determine if an insurable loss exists.  You will receive a very detailed inspection and allowance report which is based on your policy and deductible.  FYI, a term "depreciation" will often be used but this is really a "hold back" of partial payment which you will eventually receive after the roofing repairs or complete re-roofing is completed.  Sometimes the initial check is also made payable to you and your mortgage company.

Once you have the report, contact your qualified and preferred roofing company to visit and evaluate the existing roofing compared to the adjuster's report.  Also, if any leaks are noted, have the roofing company provide temporary repairs to prevent further damage to the interior and any contents.  Insurance usually will also cover this emergency repair.

Lastly, trust your roofing company to again perform to high standards of excellence and give great value to you and your owner.
